Chuval

A chuval is a large storage bag woven to hang inside the tent, used to hold clothing, bedding and household goods. The decorated front was woven with the same care as a rug, often carrying tribal güls, while the back was left plain.

Along with the ensi door rug and the asmalyk camel trapping, the chuval is one of the functional weavings of nomadic and settled Turkmen life, where almost every textile in the tent had a job to do.
