License

This license covers the digital rug patterns, the nakış, or weaving cartoon, and its color sheet, that you buy from Kalben Rugs. If you buy a finished rug or kilim from us instead, you simply own that rug, and this license does not apply to it.

When you buy a digital pattern you receive a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, non-transferable license to use that pattern to weave physical rugs and kilims. The same pattern may be licensed to other weavers, unless you hold an exclusive license for it.

You may

• Weave an unlimited number of physical rugs and kilims from the pattern, by hand or on your own loom.
• Sell the finished, woven pieces freely, with no further royalty or fee to us.
• Adapt the size, palette, knot density or materials to suit your own production.
• Use the pattern for personal, commissioned or commercial weaving.
• Keep working copies and printouts of the file for your own weaving.

You may not

• Resell, share, gift, lend, sublicense or redistribute the digital pattern file itself, in whole or in part, free or paid, in any format.
• Post or upload the file anywhere others can reach it, including marketplaces, file-sharing services, code or design repositories, pattern libraries and social media.
• Make a derivative digital pattern or product from it for distribution, including re-charting, tracing, vectorizing, recoloring or converting it into another pattern format to share or sell.
• Use the pattern, its grid or its images to train, fine-tune or build any machine-learning or AI model, dataset or generative system, or to power an automated pattern generator.
• Claim authorship of the design, or register, trademark, patent or copyright it, or a close variation of it, as your own.
• Remove or alter any watermark, attribution or file information.
• Use the watermarked preview images for anything. Only the clean licensed file may be woven from.
• Use the Kalben Rugsname, or the weaving family's, to imply endorsement, or present your rugs as ours.

Who owns the design

The design, the cartoon and all rights in them remain with Kalben Rugs and the weaving family who created them. Buying a pattern licenses you to weave from it. It does not transfer the copyright or make the design yours.

The rugs you weave

The physical rugs and kilims you weave from a licensed pattern are yours. You may keep them, gift them or sell them as you like, and we never take a royalty on a finished piece. The license reaches the pattern file, not the rugs that come off your loom.

Exclusive rights

By default a pattern is non-exclusive and may be licensed to other weavers. If you need a design removed from sale so that only you may produce it, exclusive licenses are available on request. Contact us for terms.

If the terms are broken

If the file is redistributed, published, used to train a model, or otherwise used outside this license, the license ends at once. You must stop using the pattern and delete every copy of the file. Rugs you have already woven in good faith remain yours. We reserve the right to pursue any remedy available to us.

Why these limits exist

Half of what every pattern earns goes back to the weaving families. The digital file is the one thing that, once it leaks, lets someone profit from a design without the people who made it ever being paid. These limits are not here to make weaving harder. They are here so the earnings stay with the makers.
